Regularly clean light fittings and lamp shades


Electrical Goods

“Turn it Off” when not in use; Lights, TV’s Computers etc.

Activate the "Sleep" feature on Computers and office equipment.

Defrost your refrigerator at least once every 6 months to save energy.

Always keep your fridge fully stocked. An empty fridge costs more to run.

Ensure food is cool before placing it in the fridge.

Choose A rated appliances when purchasing electrical goods.

Cooking

Only boil as much water in the kettle as you need above the Min.

Turn down a boiling saucepan and put a lid on to save energy.

Use a microwave oven.

Washing and Hot Water

Have a shower instead of a bath.

Set the Hot Water Thermostat to 55 - 60 Degrees Celsius

Install a lagging jacket if your hot water cylinder is not insulated.

Try to use your boiler to heat water rather than the electric emersion.

Fix dripping hot water taps promptly.

Only use washing machines and dishwashers when full.

Use the economy button where possible.

Wash clothes at as low a temperature as possible.

Heating

Close your curtains at dusk making sure not to cover radiators.

Close all doors in unused rooms.

Fit Thermostatic controls on radiators.

Set a lower temperature in rooms that are not being used.

Weather Strip or Draught Strip all windows and doors.

Seal all gaps but do not seal ventilation areas in walls and roof.

Install Modern Vents in walls in your home. They slow down heat loss through vents while still allowing air circulation throughout your home.
